Army educates personnel on responsible use of social media


In an effort to improve personnel perspective on the effective and positive use of social media, the Army Public Relations Branch has taken advocacy to the 8th Division area of ​​responsibility.

The director of army public relations, brigadier general. Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

The general officer commanding the 8th Division, Maj. Gen. Uwem Bassey, urged participants to draw lessons from the workshop to be able to effectively use social media to promote the image and reputation of the Nigerian military.

Bassey, who was represented by Brigadier-General. Aminu Abdullahi, urged participants to use social media responsibly without compromising their personal and operational safety.

He further instructed everyone to collectively mitigate the challenges associated with the negative use of social media, which he said has enormous implications on operational engagements and national security.

The GOC commended the Directorate of Public Relations of the Army for taking the initiative to embark on the advocacy campaign to raise the level of awareness among the personnel.

Nwachukwu said the workshop was organized to improve staff understanding on the use of social media.

He said advocacy was needed to effectively use social media as a force multiplier for ongoing military operations to positively change the narrative in favor of the military and its operations.
