The Delta State Police Command killed 10 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in a fierce gunfight around the Kwale Axis in the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Bright Edafe disclosed in a statement on Sunday.
He said: “After murders, arson, kidnappings, armed robberies, attacks on innocent civilians and on-duty police officers and the confiscation of their guns, the command has never wavered in its efforts to arrest and ensure that the thugs are brought to justice.
“As a result, the command conducted an intelligence-led investigation and on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 5 a.m., the Delta State Police Commissioner detailed a combined team including the Anti-Kidnapping/Cybercrime Squad State, Dragon Patrol Teams, RRS Agents and Anti-Cult Volunteers from Agbor, Ekwoma, Igbodo, Ibusa, Abavo and Kwale respectively.
“The Combined Teams embarked on an undercover operation and stormed the hideout of these daring kidnappers/armed robbers around the Kwale Axis. The thugs, who were armed with AK-47 rifles and charms , on sighting the police, fired at them sporadically and the team also engaged them in a fierce firefight.
Edafe said that due to superior police firepower, 10 of the suspected kidnappers/armed robbers were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
He said five AK-47 rifles, six magazines and 117 7.62mm rounds were recovered from the thugs.
While assuring residents that the command would continue to maintain momentum, the PPRO urged members of the public, vigilantes, anti-cult volunteers and other non-state actors to continue to partner with the police, with a view to s ensuring that Delta State was not a haven for criminals.
