The Defense Headquarters said operational troops in Borno State had rescued as many as 100 family members of terrorists in the past three weeks.
He added that 33 of the families of the rescued terrorists were women, noting that 14 terrorists were killed while 15 were arrested during one of the operations launched in Borno between May 19 and June 2, 2022.
Speaking at a press briefing on troop activities on Thursday, Director of Defense Media Operations Major General Benard Onyeuko also recovered several weapons and ammunition from the terrorists.
He said: “On May 31, 2022, the repulsed troops were attacked by terrorists at Firm Base Arege in Abadam Local Government Area in Borno State. during the attack, the troops responded with superior firepower and inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists while others fled in disarray.
“Cumulatively, the troops recovered 10 AK 47 rifles, 5 AK 56 rifles, 2 FN rifles, 227 7.62 mm cartridges, 7 AK 47 magazines, 1 PKM pistol. 1 AA cannon, 164 rounds of AA ammunition, 111 Shilka ammunition, 1 cannon truck, 1 shilka barrel, 2 Danish guns, 2 improvised explosive devices, 1 car engine, 4 carts and a water pump.
“Troops also rescued 100 family members of terrorists, including 33 women. The troops also neutralized 14 terrorists and arrested 15. As a result, all families of terrorists arrested, rescued and items recovered were handed over to the relevant authorities for action.
Onyeuko also said that during the weeks under review, troops recovered 9 AK 47 rifles, 100 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 458 stolen cattle, 20 motorcycles and also rescued 152 civilians.
