Getafe vs Real Madrid: schedules, TV and how to watch online

Real Madrid travel through the Spanish capital to face Getafe as Carlo Ancelotti’s side aim to extend their lead at the top of the table in Sunday’s kick-off as La Liga picks up after the winter break. Madrid currently hold an eight-point advantage over opponents closest to Sevilla with Betis five more points from third place. Ancelotti has denied the title is up for grabs for Madrid, but with Atlético and Barcelona out of the race – Diego Simeone’s team are 17 points behind and Xavi 18 – the Italian tactician will be quietly confident that he only needs to keep the ship stable to secure the championship in his first season since returning to the seat at the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid covid deals soften for Ancelotti

Madrid have lost just one of their 19 La Liga appearances this season and have been unbeaten since early October, taking nine of the 11 wins in the meantime and crucially beating rivals such as Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Barca during the period to exert a virtual stranglehold on the top of the table. Ancelotti has also staged wins in recent weeks with a team severely exhausted due to a covid-19 outbreak., a situation which calmed down somewhat at the break with the return of Marcelo, Luka Modric, Isco, Marco Asensio, Rodrygo, David Alaba and Gareth Bale.

Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius, Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga are the latest to return positive tests as the Getafe game draws closer and it remains to be seen if they will be included, with the French midfielder serving a one-game suspension anyway against the Azulones, but Ancelotti can appeal to Casemiro, who served his own suspension in the win over Athletic.

Getafe has been largely unscathed from the latest wave of covid in the capital, but Quique Sánchez Flores will have to do without the influential defender Djené, suspended, while the Getafe boss will wait for late fitness tests on José Macías, Vitolo and Chema Rodríguez. After a dismal start to the season in which Getafe lost seven trotting, Sánchez Flores takes the Azulones forward in the right direction: The hosts have been undefeated for five and have only conceded once in this round and will look to catch up with the fleeing leaders at the Colosseum.
