KARACHI: APNS expresses its deep concern following the report in a news section in which it was stated that the federal government, under the guise of austerity measures, has decided to stop the purchase of newspapers and magazines for federal government offices ministries, departments, autonomous and semi-autonomous agencies.

Sarmad Ali, President and Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani, Secretary General of All Pakistan Newspapers Society said the above decision spelled the death knell for the newspaper industry which is struggling for survival in the current gloomy economic environment. It was a misguided and true description of an insane penny measure.

APNS officials said the decision, if implemented, would have a devastating impact on the liquidity conditions of an already crisis-ridden media industry and would reflect badly on relations between the current government. of unity and the media.

APNS officials have asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review and withdraw these anti-media measures which would only save a few peanuts but would be highly counterproductive to press-government relations and the survival of the print media.
