Magazine publishers nationwide are running an in-store promotion with cash prizes for consumers and newsagents as part of National Newsagent Week 2021, which takes place next week.
For the third year, all the main magazine publishers in the country – Yaffa Media, (publisher of Print21), Are Media, Next Media, NewsLifeMedia, Lovatt’s Media, DC Thompson, Genera, Just Media, Marketforce, Puzzler Media Australia, Seymour and Universal Media – have joined forces to launch an initiative to give back to newsagents and the community, to show their appreciation for the role that newsagents play in local Australian communities.
The country’s 2,700 newsagents remain the main channel for magazine sales, with 33 million magazine sales generated annually by newsagents. Magazine sales in many industries increased during the lockdown, with Money, Golf, and Australian traveler among those who double their readership, according to Roy Morgan Research.
In collaboration with Ovato Retail Distribution – now owned by Are Media – and Ovato Print for magazine distribution, and the leading national body for newsagents, the Australian Lottery and Newsagents Association (ALNA), the industry the edition offers customers who purchase a magazine from any newsagent until October 3 the chance to enter a raffle and win up to $ 50,000.
Promotion is supported by in-store displays, social media, and advertising in national and metro magazines and newspapers.
Ben Kearney, CEO of the Australian Lottery and Newsagents Association, said: âConsumers have made it clear that newsagents are their preferred outlet for buying magazines. And we have seen that escape and the ideas provided by magazines have been in particular demand throughout the challenges of the pandemic.
âWe are delighted that the country’s leading publishers are coming together to support newsagents and their local communities. While buyers are pressured to stay confined to their local areas and are encouraged to support small businesses, newsagents have been a lasting and primary point of sale for many diverse products and services, including magazines.
