Prior to Surveys, EC Holds Social Media Workshop


With social media emerging as a new challenge, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab hosted a workshop on Friday for all District Public Relations Officers (DPROs) on “Social Media Monitoring” to help them tackle abuses. fake news and paid information identification. during the legislative elections of 2022.

Dr Rubal Kanozia, assistant professor at Central University of Bathinda, who is a disinformation and fake news researcher and also a social media analyst, was the workshop’s keynote speaker.

PDG S Karuna Raju reviewed the ongoing SVEEP activities with the DPROs in their respective districts. He called on the DPROs to educate as many people as possible about their right to vote not only by using conventional media like indoor and outdoor advertisements and press briefings, but also urged them to make the best use of social media platforms.

Dr Kanozia then briefed DPROs on various social media tips and tools, which will help them monitor fake news, viral news and paid news that goes viral on different social media platforms during Assembly elections. DPROs play a vital role in the Media Certification and Monitoring Committees (MCMCs) formed during elections to monitor news in newspapers, electronic media and social media.
