The Time learn more about their impressive achievements…

An independent dance school in Tunbridge Wells has seen a record number of pupils qualify for the prestigious All England National Dance Final to be held next month.

During the recent May semester, young students from the Dance Consortium competed against the rest of the South East in the All England Regional Dance Finals held at the Hawth Theater in Crawley.

The students of the Dance Consortium did it as soloists and as a group, and did so well that they managed to earn a top three finish – as well as a prestigious grade of honor – which allowed more than 30 of them to win a place in the All England Dance. national finals in July.

A spokesperson said the last time Dance Consortium students were in the finals was in 2019, when 18 young dancers made it to the event.

“This year there are 34 competing against the rest of the top dancers in the country,” they continued.

The Dance Consortium was established 35 years ago and is based at Temple Grove Academy on Friars Way in Tunbridge Wells.

“This year, 34 local dancers are competing against the best from the rest of the country”

The spokesperson added that the All England Dance national final will be held at the organization’s headquarters in High Wycombe and that two of the qualified entries are Ukrainian dances which were performed at the fundraiser of the Ukraine Relief Group last month in Tunbridge Wells.

The school teaches children a number of international dances, including Czech, Mexican, Polish and Portuguese, in addition to traditional ballet, tap and musical theatre.

The school’s co-directors, Elizabeth Witt and Jessica Punch, told the Time:

“We are both incredibly proud of the dancers and we are very happy to have so many dancers making it to the national finals!”

Tickets will soon be on sale for The Dance Consortium’s summer show at the EM Forster Theater in July.
