Taraba attack: Troops launch rescue operation for missing personnel


The Nigerian Army said on Thursday that troops from the 93rd Battalion embarked on a search and rescue mission for missing personnel as they responded to a distress call of an attack on the community of Tati, in Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, 2022.

A statement from army spokesman Brigadier General Onyema Nwanchukwu said troops are currently in pursuit of the bandits and will leave no stone unturned in the search and rescue operations for missing personnel.

“Troops were quickly on their way after receiving a distress call that the community of Tati was being attacked and razed by suspected bandits. While pursuing the bandits, the troops were ambushed by the criminals.

“Troops fought fiercely in the ambush neutralizing four of the bandits. Unfortunately, during the firefight, six valiant soldiers paid the ultimate price, while one staff member went missing.

“However, a reinforcement team from the 6th Brigade deployed against the fleeing bandits in Ananum village in the Donga local government area of ​​the state, neutralized 2 additional bandits and recovered an Ak 47 rifle , a pistol, a locally made pistol, 2 AK 47 magazines, 19 special 7.62 mm cartridges, 7 9 mm cartridges and 3 motorcycles.

“The good people of Taraba State are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the security agencies,” the statement added.
