February 1 – In an agreement signed today, Block Island time was acquired by Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers from CCC Media, joining a statewide family of publications that includes several daily and weekly newspapers.
Block Island time was founded in 1970 by publisher Dan Rattiner and editor-in-chief Margaret Cabell Self and has been owned by CCC Media since 2016. In addition to the weekly, Block Island time publishes four free summer editions and other annual publications, including Block Island Weddings magazines and the Block Island Dining Guide.
RISN was established in 2007, buying several local newspapers, including The Kent County Daily, The Woonsocket Call, and the Narragansett Time of the Journal Register. Since then, he expanded his holdings in 2018 to include The Independent and The western sun. He also owns several other newspapers, mainly in Rhode Island.

Dirks, Van Essen & April, a Santa Fe, New Mexico-based media merger and acquisition firm, represented CCC Media in connection with the transaction. Terms were not disclosed.
