Nasarawa State Police Command said it arrested a 35-year-old Likita Abubakar who allegedly transported 53 AK-47 magazines to an unknown destination in the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ramhan Nansel in an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Saturday said 260 rounds of live ammunition were also recovered from the suspect, who is believed to be on the list of people wanted by the police.
He said a team of police officers on patrol intercepted Abubakar in the local government area of ââAkwanga, state, while he was carrying the weapons on a motorcycle.
Nansel said: âAn alleged criminal, who was on the wanted list by the Nasarawa State Police Command for offenses ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping, was sighted today ( Saturday) at Alushi Junction, Akwanga LGA.
âA police detachment attached to Akwanga Division was immediately deployed to the area and a 35-year-old Likita Abubakar was arrested. We were able to recover 53 empty magazines, 260 rounds of live ammunition and the sum of N 38,500 in cash as exhibits.
The PPRO also revealed that a Toyata Camry with the RBU 267 EU license plate that was allegedly stolen in the New Nyanya area of ââthe state had been recovered by the command.
âA detachment of police detectives attached to the New Karu division took action and was able to trace the vehicle to Kafanchan in Kaduna State where they arrested a certain Emmanuel Adakole Onyilo who was in possession of the vehicle and he confessed to the crime. he said.
Nansel said Police Commissioner Adesina Soyemi ordered the suspects to be charged after the State Department of Investigation and Criminal Intelligence investigation was concluded in Lafia.
